Technical limitations and constraints

This article explains the technical limitations that apply to ProBackup's data backups and Google Drive sync.

Backup limitations

  • Text field length – only the first 2,500 characters of text fields and comments are backed up. Content beyond this limit is not stored.

Google Sheets limitations

When syncing data to Google Sheets, the following constraints apply. These are limitations of Google Sheets, not of ProBackup. Your data is always fully backed up on ProBackup's servers, regardless of these limits.

  • Maximum cell count – a Google Sheet cannot exceed 2 million cells (fields × records).

    • If a dataset has more than 50,000 records, no Google Sheet will be created for that dataset.

    • If a Google Sheet exceeds 1.5 million cells, a new sheet is created with fewer columns. The previous version is moved to the Archive folder.

  • Maximum cell length – a single cell in Google Sheets cannot contain more than 4,000 characters. Text longer than this will be truncated.

Note: These Google Sheets limits only affect the synced copy. All records and fields are always fully stored on ProBackup's encrypted servers.
