How to back up Asana with a service account

Updated today

This article explains how to connect ProBackup to Asana using a service account instead of a standard OAuth connection.

Note: Service account connections are only available on the ProBackup Premium plan and require an Asana Enterprise plan.

Step 1: Enable Work Access Mode in Asana

  1. In Asana, navigate to the admin console.

  2. Click "Launch Asana" in the left pane.

  3. Select "Work access mode".

For more details, see Asana's guide on Work Access Mode.

Step 2: Create an API token

  1. Log in to your Asana service account.

  2. Click "Create new token".

  3. Enter a token name (e.g. "ProBackup Backup") and click "Continue".

  4. Click "Copy" to copy the token, then click "Done".

Step 3: Share the token with ProBackup

Send the token to [email protected] via a secure link. We recommend using a service like onetimesecret.com to share it safely. Our team will configure the connection for you.
