Jira and Confluence licensing for ProBackup

Written by ProBackup

Jira and Confluence are now licensed directly through the Atlassian Marketplace, instead of through your general ProBackup subscription. This article explains what changed and how to set up and manage your Jira and Confluence backups under the new model.

What changed

Previously, a single ProBackup subscription covered Jira and Confluence along with your other integrations. This has changed for these two Atlassian products:

  • Jira and Confluence are no longer included in your general ProBackup subscription.

  • You now license them directly through the Atlassian Marketplace.

  • All other ProBackup integrations (Asana, Trello, ClickUp, Airtable, and more) continue to work under your existing ProBackup subscription.

Why we made this change

We rebuilt our Jira and Confluence integrations on Atlassian's Forge platform, so ProBackup now runs natively within the Atlassian environment. Licensing through the Atlassian Marketplace is part of this move toward full integration with the Atlassian suite. For you, this means a more deeply integrated backup experience, with licensing and billing handled directly through the tools you already use.

How to get started with Jira and Confluence backups

  1. Go to the ProBackup listing on the Atlassian Marketplace.

  2. Click "Get it now" to add ProBackup to your Atlassian site.

  3. Follow the prompts to authorize ProBackup and select the projects and spaces you want to back up.

  4. Complete your purchase directly in the Atlassian Marketplace.

Managing your license

You can manage your Jira and Confluence backup license within Atlassian:

  • Update billing information

  • Cancel or change your plan

To access these settings, go to your Atlassian administration settings and open "Manage apps", then find ProBackup.

Frequently asked questions

What about my existing Jira and Confluence backups? Backups created before May 1st 2026 will continue to be included in your general ProBackup subscription. At this point we have no plans to migrate these backups to the new licensing model, but we will let you know in advance if this changes.

Do I need a separate ProBackup account for Jira and Confluence?

Yes. Jira and Confluence each use their own ProBackup account, so they cannot be backed up under the same account. When you sign up for the second product, we automatically create a second ProBackup account for you using a "+" alias on your email address.

For example, if you sign up with [email protected] for Jira and then add Confluence, we automatically create a second account at [email protected]. To view your backups, you switch between the two accounts.

Tip: The easiest way to access your Jira or Confluence backups is directly from your Atlassian account. Open the apps section and look for "ProBackup" in the left sidebar.
