This article explains which data types ProBackup can restore for Asana and any known limitations.
Projects
When you restore a project, a new project is created in the workspace, named after the original with "(restored
)" added. All sections, tasks, subtasks, comments, files, custom fields and task dependencies are restored with it.
Known limitations:
Formula fields and read-only computed fields cannot be restored and are skipped.
If the original team no longer exists, the project is restored without a team.
Tasks
When you restore an Asana task, you choose a restore method:
Option 1: Restore as new records (Recommended)
Creates a copy of the selected tasks in the original project. All subtasks, comments, files, and custom field values are restored as well. The restored task gets a comment with the ID of the original task. This is the safest option and does not affect any existing Asana tasks.
If a task was only removed from this project but still exists in another project, ProBackup adds the existing task back to the project instead of creating a duplicate.
Option 2: Overwrite existing records
Updates existing tasks with the backed-up field values. Use this to roll back changes to a task that still exists in your project. When you select Overwrite existing records, a field picker (Choose Fields to Overwrite) appears. Select which fields you want to overwrite: name, description, assignee, due date, completed status, and custom fields.
Note: Deleted tasks can only be restored as new records.
Known limitations:
Formula and read-only custom field values are skipped.
If the assignee no longer has access, the task is restored without an assignee.
If the description's formatting cannot be preserved, it is restored as plain text.
Comments
When you restore a comment, a duplicate is created in the related task. System-generated and empty comments are skipped.
Files
When you restore a file, it is added to the related task.
Custom fields
When you restore a custom field, a duplicate is created in the related project, with "(restored
)" added to its name. All field values for existing tasks are restored as well. Workspace-wide (global) fields that still exist are reused instead of duplicated.
What can't be restored
Goals, portfolios, teams and users are backed up and can be viewed and exported from your vault, but cannot be restored into Asana.
