How to restore Smartsheet data

Written by ProBackup

This article explains which data types ProBackup can restore for Smartsheet and any known limitations.

Rows

When you restore a row, a duplicate is created in the existing sheet. The following data is included: field values, attachments, conversations, and child rows.

Sheets

When you restore a sheet, a duplicate is created in its original folder, workspace or Sheets home location. The connected account must still be able to access that destination. The restored sheet gets "(restored" plus the restore date and time added to its name. The following data is included: columns, rows (in their original order and hierarchy), field values, cell formulas, cell formatting, attachments, and conversations.

Known limitations when restoring a sheet:

  • Duration columns, system columns (such as Auto-Number, Created By, Created Date, Modified By, Modified Date) and project schedule date columns are not recreated.

  • A column’s name, supported type, width, dropdown options and primary-column designation are restored. Other column settings, such as column locks, are not restored.

  • The primary column is always placed first.

  • Sheet settings such as conditional formatting, automations, forms and sharing are not restored.

  • Smartsheet limits sheet names to 50 characters, so a long sheet name is shortened in the restored copy.

Conversations and attachments

Conversations (comments) and attachments cannot be restored on their own. They are restored together with their row or sheet.
