This article explains how restoring Miro boards works in ProBackup.
Restores never overwrite your board
A Miro restore never changes or overwrites your existing items. A board restore creates a new board in your Miro account, named after the original with a timestamp, for example "Marketing plan (restored 2026-09-15 13:44:19)". The board is created in the team the original board belongs to, so look for it there.
How to restore a board
Open your Miro backup in ProBackup and go to Boards.
Select the board and the snapshot date you want to go back to.
Click the Restore icon and confirm with Restore. The restore report shows done when the new board is ready.
Open Miro: the restored board appears next to the original. Rename it if you want to keep the original name.
What is restored: text, sticky notes, shapes, frames, cards, embeds, mind maps, images and documents (the files are uploaded again from your backup), and the connectors between items.
Good to know:
Lines and freehand drawings can't be recreated through Miro's API. They come back as a rectangle labelled "Unsupported shape" in the same spot, so you can see what was there.
For mind maps, ProBackup adds an orange sticky note to the board: click any "+" on the root node to refresh the mind map layout.
Comments and tags are not backed up, so they can't be restored.
Restoring the same snapshot twice creates a second copy, so check the first restored board before retrying.
Restore single items
To bring back a few items instead of a whole board, open the Text, Sticky notes or Shapes table, select the items and click the Restore icon. ProBackup adds copies of them to the original board; existing items are not changed. Other item types (such as images, frames and cards) come back with a board restore.
Exporting instead of restoring
If you only need the data outside Miro, open the board in ProBackup and use the Export Table icon to download it as an Excel file.
